I had a case on Good Friday of an early invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix. Of interest, notice that the atypical mitotic figure shown resembles a cross! A timely photo for Easter Sunday.
The photo on the right, shows early invasive buds from overlying squamous cell carcinoma in situ (CIN3). Notice the “pinking up” of the cytoplasm, and the drop off as irregular buds into the adjacent stroma. These buds extend <1mm into the stroma.
